On April 8, 2022, my husband, Peter, was admitted to the emergency room at Hospital H+ in San Jose del Cabo after falling while in Baja California. Upon admission, he was in severe neurological impairment, requiring oral intubation, induced sedation, and emergency surgery--left craniotomy and blood clot drainage.
After surgery, he was admitted to the ICU, where he is still being cared for. Unfortunately, he developed pneumonia, and after more than a week, he had to be extubated because he couldn't spit or swallow. So on April 20, a tracheostomy and gastrostomy were performed. These surgeries provide an alternative airway for breathing and tube feeding routes.
Brain CT scan from 4-21-22 shows proper brain expansion and no further bleeding. He is receiving daily physical therapy, but critical care at the ICU is still needed. At this time, he remains in a coma, and In the best scenario, we face a prolonged hospital stay of about two more weeks.
I will need to buy a wheelchair and build a ramp to accommodate the wheelchair in order to bring Peter home. Those of you who know my husband know what a great man he is. We live a simple life together, and unfortunately, our medical bills are astronomical. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.
