Musician ends up in ICU instead of birthday dinner
Donation protected
My name is Donna Joyner. Mark is my brother-in-law and Lisa is my sister. Mark J. Smith is a musician. He was driving with his wife, Lisa on May 29th, when they were hit, by a reckless driver. According to a few witness statements, the driver was going over 100 mph, (on a restricted license) and lost control.
The driver's side received major impacts and slammed into a concrete pole and then into a tree. While both received multiple blunt force traumas, Mark was listed as a “possible loss of life” and was admitted to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. For his birthday, May 30th, he received 10 titanium plates for 19 broken ribs, some fragmented. Additionally, he had multiple punctures to his spleen, a concussion, arm trauma, multiple teeth damage and a punctured lung. His collapsed lung was inflated but had fluid build-up which resulted in a tube being inserted to keep them drained.
Since then, Mark has had complications with his lungs and was hospitalized again to drain almost 5 more liters of fluid. He continues to have nurses, physical therapists and care providers.
Mark also has difficulties with using his fingers. As a musician, being unable to perform or use the mechanics of his hands to play guitar, his future is uncertain.
While both are insured, with the extent of damage Mark has incurred, and being unable to work in the foreseeable future, they are needing help. With Lisa already being disabled with numerous back and other surgeries, their need is immediate.
Any monies, no matter the amount is deeply appreciated. Money will be used for medical and living expenses.
