Hi, my name is Angelica Walters. Over the past few months, my family has faced several unexpected medical challenges that have left us struggling financially.

Our baby boy, Liam, was born with an incomplete bilateral cleft lip and palate. This was not detected on any prenatal scans, so we had no time to plan or prepare for the medical and travel costs that followed. Since his birth, we’ve had to travel to Ottawa twice for Liam to be seen at CHEO. Each trip has meant week-long stays away from home with three children, which has been very costly.

I also have two other young boys at home and very limited support. With many more medical appointments expected over the next year and possibly more, the financial strain continues to grow.
