(CANCER PATIENT)
Hello family, friends and well wishers,
Hello family, friends and well wishers,
My name is Winnie Mwangi.
I am fundraising for my dad who is admitted at the Nairobi Hospital from 08 September 2021 .
Dad has been undergoing treatment for a Head & Neck Cancer Tumor discovered in his neck. The Tumor was defined as Stage 3, SCC (Squamous Cell Carcinoma) and dad has undergone the following in the last year:
- A debulking surgery on 05th November 2020, to identify and reduce the mass on his neck.
- 9 (nine) Chemotherapy sessions from 18th December 2021 - April 2021.
- 35 (thirty five) Radiotherapy sessions on the neck (in combination with Chemotherapy) from 08th March 2021 - 27th April 2021.
Following the Radiotherapy treatment, Dad's ability to eat gradually deteriorated as we discovered that his tongue had started to experience Paralysis (a possible side-effect of the Radiotherapy).
At the time, dad was hoping to regain some of his weight inorder to be able to continue with his Chemotherapy treatment.
On 08th September 2021, we took dad to the Nairobi Hospital to undergo a fairly simple operation (the PEG insertion), inorder to help him feed.
His condition suddenly worsened and we were in ICU the same night after the operation, when dad developed breathing difficulties.
Since then he has had a tracheostomy tube inserted in his throat to help him breathe and he hasn't been stable enough for us to have a chance of even move him in his extremely fragile state.
Further, Dad got even more fragile on Thu, 23rd September 2021, after he suffered a CARDIAC ARREST (i.e. his heart stopped - due to septic shock) while at the ICU and he required 15 minutes of CPR to resuscitate him.
Fortunately the medical team were able to get his heart to start beating again, but dad has needed blood pressure support medication (Inotropes) since the CARDIAC ARREST.
We are reaching out for your support and goodwill and more importantly financial assistance.
As of today 13th October 2021 the bill is in excess of KES 7 million ( $ 70,000) and it is expected to increase as dad receives the care that he needs.
Our family appreciates how tough the times are especially with the effects that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on people's income therefore, we encourage everyone to give whatever they feel they can (... no matter how small, we appreciate the sacrifice).
We thank those of you who will support us, for the goodwill, love and support that you are extending to us, as we tackle this challenge!
UPDATE:
Dad went back to our maker on Friday, 15th October 2021 at 4:45 pm. Both of his sons (my brothers Steve and Ian), were with dad - holding his hand - when his heart finally stopped beating and he breathed his last.
Please say a prayer for Dad's Soul.
With love ❤️
