Hafa Adai to all, my name is Josiah Sablan. I am 14 years young. I am from Inarajan, Guam. I come from a big family, out of 9 siblings I am the 6th. So I am very helpful taking care of my younger sibling's, and helping anyone else in need. I am an athlete with a big heart for others. I enjoy playing basketball, it was a sport for me, but as years dedicated, it became a passion.
November 2019, I got an annual physical check up with blood work for school. As my results returned the doctors noticed my platelet count was lower than 150,000, which then diagnosed me with Chronic Immune Thrombocytopenia. This disorder is when there aren't as many normal platelets in the blood as there should be, which causes me to have easy bruising and uncontrollable bleeding. When I get bruised, it uses up my platelets which cannot be replaced. When I bleed, even just a nose bleed, I don't have enough platelets to control the bleeding. Every bleed, I would have to go to the hospital.
Being diagnosed with this disorder took a toll on my life. My passion for basketball had to be given up, because a simple fall down could easily send me to the hospital. I can no longer do any playing outside or any sort of outdoor activities. My life is now having to be extra careful and taking the precautions of any injuries. Because any injury may lead to a fatal cause.
I am fundraising to seek extra medical attention at San Diego, California. My hope is to help cure this disorder and possibly get my life & basketball back. I am extremely grateful for any donations to help my fight against this. Your support will not go unnoticed. Thank You!
