Mark returned home to Grays Harbor a month ago from a 9-month assignment with his wildfire-fighting handcrew . Husband of Liz Heyd, my dear friend, and father to Cheyan & Chyna, Mark was hit head-on by another vehicle early Monday, 11/28/2016. The local hospital in Grays Harbor transferred him by ambulance 111 miles to Harborview ICU due to the extent of his spinal injuries.
Along with the emotional and physical healing that will be in store for him, there will be also be the added stress of hospital and possible surgical expenses, medical follow-up, transportation costs (ambulance, gas for his family to travel to and from the hospital in Seattle and to get to the follow-up appointments and rehab once he is released, money to replace his totaled vehicle, etc.), and lost wages during his recovery.
