Fund for Suraj's AVM Surgery

My brother, Suraj Sharma, from Nepal, was diagnosed with an extensive Arterio-Venous Malformation (AVM) of right cheek nine years ago in 2009. AVM is an abnormal tangle of arteries and veins in which the arteries feed directly into the veins without a normal intervening capillary bed. AVM, in itself is a rare condition but an AVM of face is even rarer. Suraj's AVM was life threatening due to it's size and tendency to rupture. Since the diagnosis, Suraj underwent 10 embolizations in the renowned hospitals of Nepal and India with no success in controlling the symptoms (uncontrolled bleeding from gums, swelling of cheek, pain and vision problem etc.) of his AVM. His AVM had grown very large and the doctors had warned him that he could bleed to death anytime in the near future if the AVM was not removed. No further embolizations could be done in his case, a major surgery was the only option left. Because of the rarity and complexity of his AVM, he was referred to Dr. James Suen, a distinguished AVM surgeon at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) to perform the extensive surgery. Finally, Suraj travelled to Little Rock, Arkansas and underwent a 19 hour long surgery on August 22, 2018. Few weeks later, another 6 hour surgery followed by a 3 hour Arteriogram and embolization procedure had to be performed to destroy more abnormal blood vessels in his face and jaws. Suraj had poor healing with infections since those surgeries and received 4 months of post surgical care at UAMS. He has been on G-tube since his first surgery because he should not be eating anything from his mouth until complete healing. Because of the surgeries lasting much longer than expected and his poor healing, the actual cost of the care has surpassed way beyond the estimated amount of $50,000 which we had deposited to UAMS before the surgery. We are not able to pay the remaining balance all by ourselves. So, we are seeking help paying for the outstanding balance of his medical expenses.
