Medical Fund for Max Oliver
A little over 3 weeks ago, 2 1/2 year old Max Oliver, began having seizures without a known cause. On Monday May 11th, Max was admitted to the hospital. Initially the doctors thought he had epilepsy but when his body didn’t respond to anti-seizure medications they had to dig deeper. The priority was to get the seizures to stop. On Wednesday May 13th, they put Max into a medically induced coma to try and “cool his system down” in order to stop the seizures and try to determine the cause of them. Max has had many different treatments and while the seizures did become less frequent, they weren’t able to get them to stop. On Wednesday May 20th, they put Max deeper into sedation with the hope it would stop the seizures.
On Friday May 22nd, Max had a 3rd MRI and the neurologist saw a very tiny spot on his brain that they believe to be the cause of the seizures, Cortical Dysplasia. The doctors describe it like a tiny mole or birth mark on the brain and they think it’s what’s causing the seizures.
Max was brought out of sedation last Monday the 25th. He does continue to have seizures and it's likely surgery is in the future. Max was very deeply sedated and lost a lot of strength and is working with occupational and physical therapists to re-learn how to sit up, talk, eat and walk again. If surgery is going to happen, Max needs to healthy in order to have surgery, which means he'll need time to heal and recover from being in a coma.
Max’s mom and dad, Andrew & Lilley, are taking turns with him at the hospital while balancing raising Max’s 6 month old brother, Ben. Because of COVID-19 and hospital restrictions only Andrew or Lilley are allowed to be at the hospital.
We would like to raise money to help this family with their out of pocket medical costs and costs associated with medical equipment that may be necessary when Max is released from the hospital. Additionally, they are a one income family and Andrew is rapidly using up his PTO. We'd like to try to help offset the financial hardships this family is soon to be facing on top of the medical bills.
Max’s story can be found on Caring Bridge.
