Kim DeLong, a life-long Montana resident, has recently been diagnosed with stage-four pancreatic cancer.
This life-changing news put on hold family plans, as well as a theatre career which has spanned five decades and touched thousands of lives in the process.
Kim has devoted his life to his family (Martha, Kisha, Tahni, and Bella) and the arts, primarily theatre.
He has worked professionally as an actor, director, fight choreographer and playwright; yet one of his most brilliant gifts is in teaching. He has taught at the collegiate level for 27 years, including Arizona State and Carroll College.
Stage 4 of any cancer is difficult beyond measure. Pancreatic cancer, statistically, is monstrous in terms of survival rates. The only oncology option offered in Helena, MT is chemotherapy to provide comfort, but no cure. Significant bilirubin (jaundice) complications have delayed Kim's ability to treat the primary pancreatic cancer, but we are hopeful that his personal strength, courage and determination may work on his behalf until this secondary liver issue is resolved.
Kim is researching solutions for his cancer diagnosis the same way he approaches his theatrical endeavors: with creativity and innovation. These solutions do exist beyond our community, and the most promising of those are non-chemo, non-radiation, but also non-insurance options. We need to fund both the travel and the fees to receive these treatments.
In 1997, Kim co-founded the Montana Shakespeare Company, along with his loving wife, Martha, and has served as its artistic director since that time. The company is in process of planning for its 20th anniversary season next summer. Please visit their website to see the remarkable work of The Montana Shakespeare Company, www.montanashakespeare.org.
Kim is an prime example of a Renaissance man. He has invaluable knowledge, skill, vision, compassion, and lots of important work left to do. An example of his current project is an ground-breaking book acting and communication, based upon the theories of Albert Einstein. On a more personal level, he wants to attend the college graduation of his youngest daughter in the spring.
With your help, he will be present to usher in a new era of creative thinking and expression in the arts.
On behalf of his family and friends, we...
