Medical Fund for Gary and Jennifer Mackey-Scholl
Donation protected
Hello GoFundMe Community,
My name is Vicki Wallace and I am starting a GoFundMe to help pay medical costs for my dear friends Gary and Jennifer Mackey-Scholl.
Jennifer committed 24 years of her life as a nurse, primarily in respiratory, gastrointestinal, and med-surg overflow at UnityPoint Health- Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Jennifer worked on the Younker 8 Team and was known as the "go-to" nurse, where she mentored more nurses than one could count.
At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jennifer worked around the clock, helping wherever she was needed.
She was a wealth of knowledge and very skilled. She always had the answers and when she didn't, she found them. Her patients found comfort knowing they were being taken care of by the best. Patients were always so grateful to have her on duty and assigned as their nurse. Jennifer had a way of making others feel important and valued during their time of need.
In January of 2021, Jennifer, 56, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was living at UnityPoint Hospice- Taylor House and passed away today, April 27th, 2021.
Losing a special nurse isn't easy for anyone, but gaining an angel is comforting and peaceful.
Jennifer has left behind her beloved husband Gary, who has been a professional tennis instructor in Des Moines, Iowa for decades. But people who know and work with Gary know that he is so much more than that. He has volunteered his time to mentor and instruct budding tennis youth in the Saydel and Johnston school districts for years.
Gary and Jennifer are left with mounting medical debt totaling tens of thousands of dollars, even with insurance.
The funds raised from this page will go directly towards paying off Gary and Jennifer's medical costs, and any overflow will be donated to Taylor House Hospice.
Jennifer's knowledge, skill and kind heart are missed greatly by patients, families, and staff.

Thank you for your time and donations. No amount is too small and everything is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Vicki
