Medical Fund for Recovery
In 2010 my brother Russell was attacked by several men and was stabbed multiple times. During the attack he lost 4 pints of blood and nearly his life. Although a bystander called 911 and his life was spared, the injuries resulting from the attack are destroying his quality of life. After the attack the damage done to his diestive system worsened overtime. On February 4, 2017 Russel went to the emergency room in severe pain and a several distended abdomen. After 10 hours of emergency surgery it was revealed that several parts of colon, small intestine and large intestine were infected and has to be removed to save his life. He is now living with a colonoscopy bag attached to his body for at least the next six months while his intestine recover from the emergency surgery, with the hope that he might have more repairs and reattachment of tissue completed at UC Davis Medical. Russell only has minimal insurance, and for some reason this necessary surgery is considered elective and therefore not covered or partially covered. At only 30 years old, Russell's quality of life is entirely hindered by the colonscopy bag. It affects his ability to lead an active his life, socialize, pursue his passion for fitness, and destroys his body image and indepence. We are raising money to allow Russell to gain his life and body back through this extremely necessary surgery in 6 months. Anything you can contribute is significant and our family and Russell appreciate all donations, thoughts, and prayers.
UPDATE :
We have learned today by Russels doctor that the insurance will pay for the reverse surgery. Therefore we want to thank you for contributing and the money that will be collected will be used for bills and other medical expenses as he will be out of work for several weeks. Again, thank you so much for all of the donations and support. We didnt expect to get this good news from the doctor and also the positive reaction from all of you.
