Medical Fundraiser for Officer Donovan Nicholson

Donation protected
My name is Donovan Jr. and I am trying to raise funds for my father Donovan Sr.
On November 28th, only a few days after thanksgiving, my Dad had a massive life threatening stroke. That Sunday night at 11:00 pm, my mother yelled across the house for me to come help her with my dad as he was in the midst of his attack.

My Father was rushed to the nearest hospital where it was found that he had a large blood clot in his brain. He was then stabilized enough to be airlifted to another nearby hospital for emergency surgery to remove the clot.  The worst of it was yet to be over as the next day his brain started to swell and they again had to rush him into surgery. They removed a large part of his skull to allow the brain more space for swelling.  It was a bit overwhelming after that second surgery, seeing the strong man I knew as my father being hooked up to so many machines.  The attending doctor did not have much hope and urged us to consider removing him from life support as almost half of his brain tissue appeared dead.  In the minds of my family and I, the doctor had totally given up on my father and expected us to do so as well.  The doctors didn't know my father like we knew him. He is a fighter and would not give up easily.

Donovan Sr. is a husband, father of two, and 27 year retired lieutenant from the City of Miami Police Department. He is a pillar in his community as shown by the prayers and concerns we received during his time in the hospital. He is a positive force in this world, spreading good energy and uplifting everyone wherever he goes. He has put himself out there on behalf of his friends, family and even strangers. He was healthy and active and what happened was unfortunate not just for him but to those of us who have or have yet to benefit from his presence. Right now my dad cannot help anyone like he is used to doing. He now needs everyone to help him and this is the time to help.

My mother has been pushing through, acting decisively and with great care on the decisions that would affect my father's life.  My sister has been at the hospital every day supporting my mother and doing what she can to help care for our father. I myself am running back and forth between work and hospital. We have all done multiple 24-hour shifts at the hospital.

But with 3 weeks in ICU, 2 major operations with a third planned to replace his skull, 3 weeks of acute therapy, and Pops requiring a minimum of 3 more months of continued therapy, all with no discharge date in sight... the medical bills are mounting. With strokes timing is crucial and the majority of movement and function regained is determined within the first 6 months after. My father, Donovan, is working hard but we don’t want him to be slowed down by inaccessibility to resources due to lack of money. Whether you know my father or you are someone just trying to support... my mother Carol, sister Amber and myself, Donovan Jr. appreciate all the help. Thank you in advance for your continued prayers and generosity.
