Alexia Quaranta. Support for unexpected illness.
Our best friends Danielle and Joe’s daughter and one of our very own Dunnellon High School graduates of 2020, Alexia Quaranta, moved to New York to begin the next chapter of her life. Little did she know her life would change in a matter of seconds when she visited a friend in Georgia. The day before Lex was supposed to go home she began to feel ill, so she visited the hospital. The hospital said she was having menstrual pains and sent her on her way. The morning she was supposed to depart, her friend found her unresponsive and she was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. The family was notified at 3:00 AM and they jumped in the car unable to pack a bag and rushed to Georgia to be with their daughter and sister. She began to have what the doctors thought were very long, intense seizures way too common for Lex to bear as she was losing too much oxygen to the brain and becoming overly exhausted. She was then placed on a ventilator and moved to the ICU department. Lex has been in the hospital for 5 days now and the hospital is still unsure of what is causing the seizure-like “episodes”. She is off of the ventilator now but the lack of answers are causing a mental and physical toll on the family. While Lex has a young brother (age 9) still in school, the family must be in Georgia and Central Florida at the same time. Little Joey is so worried for his big sister so the family is trying to make life as normal as they can while not leaving Lex’s side.
This unexpected trauma for the family has incurred hotel room costs, food expenses, gas expenses, clothes costs, leave from work and medical bills for the family. Once Lex is home, they will have to make medical accommodations for their daughter.
Kyndra and Brook are trying to find ways to help assist the family as they are in another state. Any little bit will help! Thank you!
