Hello,
my name is Chance and I am posting this for a very dear friend of mine and her family.
Yesterday evening her son Killian was in a horrific accident while at the beach. He was playing around a driftwood fort someone had made and was crushed by one of the logs. He received CPR for around 20 minutes before EMS was able to restore his pulse. He has been intubated since EMS arrived on scene. He was sent to St. Joes to be stabilized and then we were flown to Harborview and admitted to the PICU. He sustained multiple fractures to his skull, broke his nose, and had a tension pneumothorax that collapsed his left lung. He has a chest tube to allow his lung to inflate. He had surgery this morning(Thursday 7/9) to remove a large part of his skull to allow his brain to swell without causing more damage and to place a drain into his brain to release some of the built up fluid contributing to the swelling. The neurosurgeon informed them that Killian had had multiple strokes in his cerebellum and there were signs of necrotic brain tissue.
At this point, they are still in the most critical 72 hours of his care. As his brain continues to swell and were able to drain the blood and fluids from around his brain, they will begin to see the full effect of damage to his brain. Currently they are still unsure if he'll be able to pull through this, but they are holding on to every little shred of hope they can that he'll survive this and go on to have some form of a meaningful life. He has reactive pupils and very active brain activity on the EEG. He's been trying to breathe over his vent since being intubated. When he's under lighter sedation, he does show some small reaction to them touching his feet or hands. When his family talk to him, his eyes tend to flicker a little. They are taking things one hour at a time. No matter what happens, they have a long road ahead.

If you’ve made it this far thank you. We are trying to help elevate any medical/food/gas expenses that we can. If you are unable to give that’s absolutely ok, please share! They need all the love and support during this difficult time. Prayers are also very welcome.
