Medical Flight Needed From Florida to New Hampshire
We need to raise money by next week before he is discharged.
Estimated discharge date May 15th
The last two weeks have been a nightmare. During what was intended to be a short three-day wedding anniversary trip to Florida, my husband, Tim, sustained life threatening injuries from a tragic event. He is lucky to be alive and we are grateful for every day we have together. His injuries resulted in a Trauma life saving event on arrival at Broward Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My husband cannot bear any weight on his legs and feet and is medically unable to stand or walk because of his injuries and requires a lift to be transferred out of bed to a wheel chair. Our lives have instantly turned upside down. His pelvis was fractured in the front and back, the left tibia and fibula are broken, his ankle is broken and will require eventually a brace for life, a broken right wrist and 2 fractured vertebrae. A major artery was severed due to fractured pelvis and that resulted in the first of three major surgeries he has undergone in two weeks time. Life has turned into phone calls to our respective jobs to ensure proper job protections under FMLA, attempts to ensure disability benefits for Tim, financial planning by shifting resources from our savings which is depleting quickly, continued pet and childcare arrangements at our home in New Hampshire. Hours of conversations with insurance personnel, hospital personnel, social workers, and medical equipment companies.
As we work through all of this chaos and uncertainty, the one primary goal is trying to get him home to New Hampshire. He cannot travel in a commercial aircraft, he cannot travel in a car. He requires per Doctor orders a Medical Flight home with a trained medical staff. Insurance has denied a medical flight at first request, we are appealing. The problem is he will likely be released from the hospital prior to an appeal being heard or even decided, and we desperately need to return home where convalescence will better managed. We anticipate he will be in the hospital another 5 to 7 days. I am trying my best to assure we have a plan but I am scared and running out of options an money. I'm trying to think of everything. I have talked with several medical flight companies and have compared prices. It seems the cost will be somewhere around $20,000 to get him home. I was prompted by coworkers and friends to reach out through GoFundMe and I have given that a lot of thought over the last week. I realize people get hurt and unexpectedly hospitalized every day. What has been so challenging is the distance of which this all took place from our home, from family, and friends and the challenges that this has presented. I just want to get my husband home so that we can start the long journey of his recovery and attend our son's high school graduation. I have had to pay out of our savings to stay here with him since April 22nd. We have very little funds left. Please help if you can, any donation amount, no matter how small is appreciated.
