Teacher’s Tragic Fall Fundraiser
Donation protected
Hello. I am Cassie aka Ms. Addington. I teach Baking & Pastry and Culinary Applications at Wichita West High School. Last October, I had a terrible fall down the stairs. I received multiple injuries. The most severe being a punctured lung, broken neck, wrist and ribs. My wrist was repaired quickly with a plate and screws. It was not necessary to surgically repair my neck. I wore a brace for a couple months. Although, I had punctured a lung, they repeatedly stated my ribs were not broken. After multiple weeks and X-rays later, several broken ribs were discovered. My doctors weren’t familiar with surgery of broken ribs, so we waited to see how they healed in their own. After months without success, I saw a trauma surgeon, and he repaired them surgically last week with plates and screws. He said they should have been fixed immediately after the accident.
Being how insurance is, I’ve had to pay all of my deductibles and out of pocket expenses twice in a few months. All of last years and this years. So, I have dug quite a hole with these unexpected medical expenses.
So, here we are. I have been blessed with the opportunity to live with my mother for support physically and financially, but I do not expect my family to take on my financial burden. I have decided to step out of my comfort zone and ask for help here.
Unfortunately, as a teacher, my income isn’t enough, especially now that I am on FMLA. I’m receiving 70% of my already small paycheck.
I am asking any and everyone, if you or others you know are able to help during this difficult time, I will be forever grateful. ❤️
