I’m writing this on behalf of a dear friend, Kayla Ebach, who is about to undergo a major cervical spine and neck surgery that will completely change her daily life for quite some time. During this surgery, several damaged discs in her neck will be removed and replaced with donor bone, and her spine will be permanently fused using plates, rods, and screws. This will leave her neck mostly immobile and require an extremely careful and lengthy recovery.

She will be in the hospital for several days and will need to wear a neck brace 24 hours a day for approximately four months, including while sleeping. Any incorrect movement during this time could cause serious, permanent damage, so strict precautions are necessary. Even basic daily tasks—bathing, lifting, driving, and caring for her family—will be very difficult.

For the first 4–6 months, she will not be allowed to lift more than 3 pounds, and even after that, lifting will remain limited until full recovery. Doctors estimate her recovery will take 8–12 months, during which time she will be unable to work or return to normal daily life.

She will also need frequent follow-up appointments every few weeks for several months, which require long-distance travel. These visits add significant costs, including gas, possible hotel stays, medical bills, and medications.

I started this fundraiser to help ease the financial burden during her recovery. Funds raised will help cover:

• Medical bills and medications

• Travel expenses for follow-up appointments

• Gas and possible hotel stays

• Household bills and groceries

• Basic expenses for her children during recovery
