Joel and I lost Jessie our beloved dog to a malicious and tragic end. Jessie may not have been a perfect dog, but she was the snuggliest sweetest girl and we loved her very much. Jessie was more than just a dog to me, she was a pillar of my journey in sobriety. And once I met Joel they formed a bond that isn’t seen every day.
I returned home June 21st 2022 to find her wounded in front of our house. Upon further inspection it was clear that she had been shot by a small calibre gun. She was alive and we truly believed she could make it. We rushed her to Warmen animal clinic. Upon X-ray they found that she was not only shot once but 3 times. Off to Saskatoon Animal Hospital we went. They tried to stabilize her and we said our goodbyes for the night. No dog should have to suffer this kind of tragedy.
We wanted to attempt everything possible. To prove to the people who maimed her that she was a fighter. She has come through a lot and maybe foolishly we believed she could come through this. They did everything they could to try to save our sweet girl but in the end her little body just couldn’t handle it.
Jessie passed away this morning and will be put to rest at home with us. A tree planted overhead to mark and honour her life.
We are so grateful for the exceptional care she received at the Saskatoon College of Veterinary Medicine.
Jessies total in medical expenses was 5840. We don’t expect the full amount to be covered by donations as we knew going in it was going to cost us to try and save her.
If you feel called to donate it is appreciated but not necessary. I just wanted to share Jessie’s story and make it known that Jessie’s love was an unconditional pure love that will always triumph over the selfish and evil actions of others.
Jessies favourite things to do were to snuggle under the blankets with Joel, wrestle with her brother Odin and run the trails with the family. Jessie was a wild hearted girl with a heart of gold. She was always there for me when times got tough and came to me at a time I needed her most. Jessie gave my life structure and purpose in early recovery and taught me how to love myself with the love she so freely gave. She was an exceedingly intuitive and loving dog, she kept us safe and we will love and miss her always.
RIP my sweet girl.
