On the morning of Thursday, February 16th, 2023, Zach loaded up his four-wheeler on his trailer, hooked it up to the truck and off he and his buddy Chance went for their annual guy’s ice fishing trip. What was supposed to be a fun weekend getaway turned into a tragic and almost life ending experience.
Zach and Chance were traveling on Hwy 10 near Waupaca during a what was a typical Wisconsin winter storm. As Zach and Chance crested a hill they saw a semi, that was parked in the roadway ahead of them; there had previously been a minor accident already that morning. Zach immediately started to brake, but with the extra weight of the four-wheeler and trailer pushing behind them, it was not easily done. They ended up hitting the back of the semi, head on. Thankfully, Chance was able to get out with only a few scratches, Zach did not fare as well.
Zach was pinned in his truck and was severally injured. It took rescue crews over an hour with the jaws of life to peel away enough of the truck to get Zach out. Due to the weather conditions the rescue crew’s Helicopter was unable to land at the accident scene, so they had to rush Zach via ambulance to Neenah Hospital. Zach had suffered a broken pelvis, broken femur, cracked ribs, and numerous lacerations, and due to the severity of his injuries Zach was in surgery for numerous hours. He spent the next several days at the hospital in Neenah, and during this time his wife Sara never left his side. Zach was then transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire where he stayed until he was able to go home with restrictions on February 27th. Zach now has a very long road of recovery ahead of him, 12 weeks at the minimum.
These funds we are trying to raise will help Zach and his wife Sara with medical expenses, as well as replacing the vehicle that was lost in the accident.
