Hi everyone.
On Thursday, March 21st, 2024, Austin Anderson of Grand Forks, North Dakota, was admitted to our local hospital with internal bleeding. They attempted a procedure to try to identify the bleeding and stop it, but it was unsuccessful. It was decided that Austin would be transported to Mayo in Rochester; he and his mom, Heidi, were airlifted on Tuesday, March, 26th. Austin’s dad, Jody, flew commercially so he could be with his son.
Mayo attempted another procedure on Thursday, March 28th, but that too was unsuccessful and they didn’t locate what they were looking for. All this time, Austin continued to have an internal bleed, was in a lot of pain, and was wore out from the entire ordeal.
On Friday, March 29th, they received a little bit of optimism, when an advanced CT Scan appeared to identify the source of the issue. They scheduled a time for surgery in the coming days, but those plans changed when Austin had reached a critical stage of blood loss. That night, he was taken into emergency surgery, where the doctors were hoping to locate and fix the bleed. It first appeared successful, but know even that is uncertain. Austin will require at least one more surgery to repair his colon, followed by several more days in the Intensive Care Unit, prior to resuming regular inpatient care. He’s a long way from in the clear.
Austin is a high school senior, and he just finished his final year of high school by winning a state hockey championship! I am reaching out to all of you to help this wonderful family offset what will be an enormous financial burden related to medical and travel expenses related to this situation.
Thank you all for your generous support!
