Medical Expenses For Shonna Rhein-Gariepy
Donation protected
Our friend Shonna was diagnosed on August 28, 2018 with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. This disease is not only a very difficult road physically and mentally but the financial strain it puts on the individual and family can be devastating. The co-payments, deductibles and the treatment leaves the individual in many cases unable to work. The direct and indirect expenses are substantial. I am hoping that with the help of friends, family, and the collective efforts of individuals we can rally around Shonna and take some of the financial burden off of her and her family. Please join me in showing her some collective support and any size donation would be much appreciated going towards direct and indirect medical expenses i.e lost time from work.
I asked Shonna to send me a message about her diagnosis and treatment. " I asked her to message me about her diagnosis and what she wouldn't mind sharing. " By my first surgery, my tumor had grown to nearly twice the size and had spread to the lymph nodes. Treatment was initially going to be a lumpectomy and radiation followed by anti estrogen. This changed at the last minute due to the tumor growth and worries of leaving positive margins behind. The lumpectomy became a mastectomy and three of the five lymph nodes were positive, so a second surgery was ordered to go in for more lymph nodes and to clear an infection I was having in the area. The second surgery took 23 lymph nodes, happily all clear, and more tests were run. I am Stage 2 ER+ and PR+ (Estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor positive) and my Onco type test returned with the distinct probability that this will return. At this point, chemo is my best option for preventing a return of this awful disease. I have started the 12 weeks of Round 1 of chemo, Round 2 should be immediately after - 4 sessions total, every other week. We are looking at about five months of chemo, a grand total of approximately 8 months. I’ve had to stay home the past couple of months and can’t wait to go back!"
