Medical Expenses for Shari Gerling

Shari (our sweet Mom) suffered a devastating fall on Monday, February 26th. The fall was the result of her heart pausing, leading to her to lose consciousness. A pacemaker has since been placed but unfortunately she had 2 unstable neck fractures at levels C1 and C2. Her spinal cord was heavily damaged and since surgery on the 28th, she has not been able to move her arms and has minimal movement in her toes. It is difficult to say if she has any sensation. At this time, they are considering this incomplete quadriplegia and hope that over the next 12-18 months that she may get some function/feeling back. She will most likely have a feeding tube and a tracheostomy placed until we know how she will do. Cognitively she is intact, is alert and is able to nod and shake her head. 

Shari has been a hard worker all of her life, working up to THREE jobs at one time to support her daughters while in college. Luckily, she has ingrained in her girls the need to have enough money to live for 6 months should an emergency arise. For those of you that do not know, Mom's financial advisor stole mom's ENTIRE retirement last year and she has nothing left. 

Shari will require 24 care. We are now faced with lost wages for Shari and her daughters, rapidly growing medical bills and the cost of making an accessible home including a lift, specialized wheelchair, a car to transport Mom, etc... as well as funds to hire home helpers.

Any help, financial or otherwise, is much needed and appreciated. We need a village!
