Funeral Expenses for Rhonda Garcia

12/30/21 UPDATE:

Update on Mom.

The cancer has spread to the tissue and fluid surrounding her brain. She also has a subdural hematoma. The only treatment would be a different chemo that is injected into her brain. It is very aggressive and invasive and we were told it might only buy her a couple more weeks. We each independently talked to Mom yesterday while she was coherent and she does not want to move forward with anymore treatment.

Today, with her care team, we made the decision to transfer Mom’s care to hospice. She will likely be coming home tomorrow. Where she will be able to spend the last of her days with us.

My Dad is already losing his best friend and we don’t want him to have to worry about being able to pay three living expenses during this time. If you can donate, anything helps. If you are unable, please share.

UPDATE:

On Sunday December 26, 2021, Mom was hospitalized due to confusion and fever. They have been doing a lot of tests on her to try and figure out exactly what is going on, but they are still unsure. Yesterday She had surgery to drain one of her kidney’s and place a stint to allow the urine to drain from her kidney directly to her bladder. There is a blockage between her kidney and bladder which they want to go back in and remove so they can biopsy it.

They also found a spot on her spine that they think is another tumor.

Since her surgery yesterday, her confusion has been much worse and the doctor plans to do an MRI on her brain to see what that shows.

While she is in the hospital, Dad has been out of work and he really needs to be able to stay with her during this time. We are asking for help so that he can care for her without worrying about the financial burden being out of work causes.

ORIGINAL POST:

On Monday March 29, 2021 Mom was taken to the Hospital after complaining of persistent headaches for a couple of weeks. At the time of her arrival, her blood pressure was dangerously high and the staff performed X-rays, CT scans, and MRI, where they found a brain tumor.

The tumor was successfully removed on Wednesday March 31, 2021, with the exception of 2-3%. We were told at that time that it was believed to be metastatic, however, they would have to wait until the results from the pathology lab to confirm.

During a repeat scan, the 2-3% of the brain tumor that was left behind, was gone.

On Friday April 2, 2021, the oncologist confirmed that Mom's tumor was metastatic (a secondary tumor), which means that it was not a "true" brain tumor and that she has cancer somewhere else in her body; a small piece had broken away from the primary tumor and traveled to her brain and grew until it was found on March 29th. Until the final result from pathology, we will not know where the cancer originated from. They are testing the cells of the tumor to find out where it is in her body. Until we know this, we will not have a treatment plan, or know her prognosis.

Although the hospital will be assisting us in applying for SSDI and medicaid/medicare, the oncologist believes that she will not be approved for either. She is uninsured and will need to obtain medical insurance by April 15th to go into effect on May 1st.

She will remain in CCU until her incision heals enough for her to come home. They will also place a port so that as soon as she has insurance, she can begin chemotherapy. It was made clear that she would not survive without radiation treatment on her brain, and chemotherapy to attack the primary source of her cancer. The oncologist quoted her chemotherapy at $20,000.00 per month without insurance.

We are asking for monetary help to assist with insurance premiums, co-pays, medication costs, as well as other costs our family may have with caring for her during her treatment.

If you are unable to donate, we are also asking for all the prayers we can get for Mom and our family at this time.
