I’m reaching out during an incredibly difficult time for my family. Over the past three weeks, my dad, Rene Miranda, has undergone three emergency brain surgeries due to complications from a subdural hematoma, a type of traumatic brain injury caused by bleeding and swelling in the brain.

He had his first surgery on May 28, and after being discharged and returning home to what seemed like a normal recovery, things took a sudden turn. Just eight days later, his condition worsened, the hematoma had returned. He needed another urgent surgery on June 6 and then again on June 17, three surgeries within a span of just 20 days.

His case is unusual and the doctors are doing everything they can. But there’s still a real risk that the swelling could come back, just like it did the last two times. His condition remains serious and uncertain, and he may still need more surgeries or long-term care.

Unfortunately my dad doesn’t have medical insurance, and my siblings and I have been covering all the hospital and recovery costs out of pocket. At this point, we’ve exhausted our resources and have started fundraising through friends, family, and social media to keep up with the mounting costs.

Estoy escribiendo en un momento difícil para mi familia. En las últimas tres semanas, mi papá, René Miranda, ha tenido que someterse a tres cirugías de emergencia en el cerebro debido a complicaciones por un hematoma subdural, un tipo de lesión cerebral traumática causada por sangrado e inflamación en el cerebro.

La primera cirugía fue el 28 de mayo y tras ser dado de alta y volver a casa con lo que parecía una recuperación normal, su situación empeoro inesperadamente. El hematoma volvio a formarse ocho días después. Fue necesaria otra cirugía urgente el 6 de junio, y nuevamente el 17 de junio. En total tres operaciones en un lapso de 20 días.

Su caso es poco común y los doctores están haciendo todo lo posible. Pero aún existe un riesgo real de que la inflamación vuelva, como ya ocurrió en las dos ocasiones anteriores. Su estado sigue siendo grave e incierto, y puede que aún necesite más cirugías o hospitalización extendida.

Lamentablemente, mi papá no tiene seguro médico y mis hermanos y yo hemos estado cubriendo todos los gastos del hospital y su recuperación con nuestros propios medios. A estas alturas, ya hemos agotado nuestros recursos y hemos comenzado a recaudar fondos con la ayuda de amigos, familiares y redes sociales para poder hacer frente costos que siguen incrementando.
