Medical Expenses for Phoenix Wasik

Hi my name is Ella, Phoenix is my older brother. I am starting this fundraiser to help with medical bills for Phoenix.

Last Saturday Phoenix was doing what he loved. He was riding a bronc at the Iron River Rodeo and his saddle broke causing him to lose control. Immediately after that his life would change. He started to have extreme back pain and was rushed to the hospital. This is when my family got one of the scariest phone calls we could ever imagine. We were told that he was hurt but we were not aware yet of how serious his injury was going to be. All we knew is that we were going there as soon as possible. He was rushed to the hospital and that is where we were headed, but before we could get very far we were told that he was going to have to be transferred to Marquette, by a life flight. That night we got the news that he had broken his back and was going to need surgery as soon as possible. His surgery went very well, he got some hardware put in to stop any further damage. He is expected to have a full recovery but it is going to be a long and hard road ahead.

This week has been very difficult for all of my family. But most of all for Phoenix. He is just 19 years old and has been told that his career in the rodeo is over and his life has to be put on pause for at least a minimum of 6 months. My brother is one of the most hard working people I know. He’ll help anyone with anything. He has been doing rodeo events since he was a young teen, volunteering and riding bulls. Not only is he involved with the rodeo but also the Marquette county fair and the U.P state fair. This year was going to be his last in 4-H at the fair doing livestock but with this accident there is a chance that he will not be able to. This accident was never expected to happen and it’s absolutely heartbreaking to see him in pain and not be able to do all the things that he loves. He is going to recover we are just trying our best to help him fully so some day he will be able to go back to normal life.
