My name is David Kuta. I am raising funds to help cover medical expenses accrued over the summer of 2022 by my wife, Pam, before she passed away on August 7. Pam, our sons Zachary and Alex and I were starting our vacation in San Diego, CA on May 30 when Pam experienced a life-threatening seizure and was rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego where she underwent endoscopic surgery to repair several sources of internal bleeding. She spent nine days in ICU and while still in the hospital it was discovered she was experiencing liver failure and needed to be evaluated for a liver transplant. After 23 days in the hospital in California, we were able to get her accepted for evaluation in the liver transplant program at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Hospital in Denver. Unfortunately our health insurance would not cover medical transport back to Colorado so we were forced to take out a $20,000 loan in order to get a medevac flight for Pam from San Diego to Denver. While at P/SL Hospital in Denver Pam was also diagnosed with kidney failure and she began inpatient dialysis treatments. She spent 21 days at P/SL before finally being discharged on July 12th to come home to Delta and begin outpatient dialysis in Grand Junction three days a week. Less than a week later, on July 18th, she experienced a brain bleed while undergoing dialysis and was rushed to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction where she underwent emergency surgery to relieve the pressure on her brain. She never fully recovered from the brain injury and surgery and spent 19 days in St. Mary's before being transferred to Hopewest Hospice Care Center where she passed away peacefully on August 7th. Over the course of the summer Pam spent 65 days in various hospitals and medical facilities. In that time I was with her the entire time in California and I traveled back and forth between Denver and Delta several times a week to be with Zachary and Alex at home as well as with her at the hospital.

While our health insurance has covered a fair amount of Pam's medical bills, we have still amassed out-of-pocket expenses in the thousands of dollars in addition to the $20,000 for the medevac flight from San Diego to Denver.

Any and all funds donated will be used to pay those medical bills and for the flight.
