It’s been three and half years since my dad has had the ability to urinate properly due to what was once diagnosed as prostate cancer. Ndojelana Edmos Nkomazana has had multiple surgeries in Zimbabwe to fix the issue without any luck. Unfortunately, 3rd world doctors do not have adequate equipment to conduct any medical procedures. So, dad now carries and uses a catheter each and everyday to relieve himself.
Two months ago, my parents arrived to visit me America for the first time. After picking them up in Atlanta airport, I immediately realized that dad was having issues using the bathroom. I immediately set up an appointment with the best urologist in Myrtle Beach, Dr. Neal Shore. Dr. Shore ruled out prostate cancer, which was great to hear. However, dad still needed to have surgery to insert a scope to access the magnitude of problem and try to relieve the blockage on his manhood.
About 10 days ago, dad had the surgery at Grand strand hospital. After the procedure the doctor found coiled scar tissue that was so bad it will require a reconstructive procedure on his urethra at University of North Carolina. We are happy that he will get registered and hopefully get treated. Our biggest challenge is that Dad doesn’t have medical insurance. We have attempted several times but they were denied because of prior medical history.
Ndojelana Edmos Nkomazana has been retired for over 25 years. He doesn’t receive any pension/social security, but relies on a monthly stipend from his kids to buy basic needs in his beloved Zimbabwe. We have been able to cover most of the doctor’s visits and a portion of his first surgery, but he will not be able to cover the next bill from UNC and all the follow up visits. We kindly asking for assistance/donations to pay for his medical bills.
We really appreciate your support during this difficult time. We are very optimistic that this will be his last surgery and put him on the road to a better life. A big thank you from the Nkomazana family.
