Medical Expenses for Mike Herrin

Donation protected
If anyone knows anything about Mike Herrin, they will know three things.  That he is one of the kindest, most positive and truly genuine people they will ever meet. For more than 40 years, Michael has struggled with Tourette’s Syndrome, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Anxiety and Depression.  He has definitely had his ups and downs through the years but for the most part he has dealt successfully with them all. About 3 years ago, things began to change and he started having severe problems with depression and anxiety. He struggled with it and fought with it so long that finally his body and mind gave in and Mike entered a very dark place.

Mike has been unable to work
and provide for his family for almost 2 years and this has only added to the
guilt and shame that seems to plague him. Life became so difficult for Mike
that he rarely left the bed and ate and functioned only through much coaxing
and help from his wife and son and other family members.  He had a short
hospitalization in June 2016 followed by dozens of medications, countless
therapy treatments and even a round of electroconvulsive shock therapy but to
no avail. During this time he was eventually approved for social security
disability but ultimately lost his job and medical insurance through his
previous work. Dawneen was finally able to secure medical insurance through her
work which meant new providers and treatment options.  Dawneen is
currently working but due to her own health difficulties and being on oxygen
she is only able to work 30 hours a week to support their family. Their 15 year
old son, Landon has had to do a lot of growing up the past few years as he has
had to step in and fill the gaps that this family currently has. Mike is now
struggling with his Tourette’s symptoms along with the depression and anxiety.
He is currently inpatient at the University of Utah Neuropsychiatric Institute
(UNI) and has been there a few weeks. He is currently undergoing 12 rounds of
ECT (electroconvulsive shock therapy) again as the doctors are trying to
“reset” his brain and he is starting to respond positively. The care he is receiving
and his treatment team are amazing and the last few visits with Mike have been
very encouraging. The Herrin family are still constantly praying for help and
healing for Mike and appreciate the love and support and prayers they have felt
from family and friends.

All donations are much appreciated and will take some of the finacial stress off this wonderful family.   We thank you for your love and support through this difficult time.

Thank you!
