Medical Expenses for Meilin Tan

Hi, Harbinson Parker Law Firm in Taylorsville, NC is fundraising for a special young lady named Meilin Tan. She has recently been diagnosed with a progressive form of oral cancer and is facing an extensive surgery involving removal of 30% of her tongue and rebuilding it from a skin graft then removing lymph nodes on her neck and possible radiation for 5-6 months. She's just a girl from Alexander County that loves sweet tea, UNC basketball, and trying local specials at a new travel destination. She was raised by her parents, Jimmy and Jinky, who taught her the lessons of hard work, education, and compassion for other people. This led her to a career in politics where she has enjoyed working on campaigns across the country for people who were going to make a more equal and just world for everyone and not just some. She is a graduate of Alexander Central High School, CVCC, and UNC-CH with a Political Science degree. Meilin is an Asian woman from red rural North Carolina. She was one of two Chinese kids in her Alexander County school system, a product of immigrant parents who started over in a place so unlike the island country they came from. Her path has not been easy and she is a stubborn woman who fights for her culture, family, and other marginalized voices in places they weren't supposed to exist in. Meilin knows how it feels to be the underdog, forced to assimilate, and simply fight for existence. Meilin hopes that, by paving her way, she will help someone who is the only Chinese kid in their rural town or another 25 year old with a chain smoker's cancer despite never chain smoking. This incredible young lady has fought for her voice to be heard and her path to be known for others that either look like her or feel the same way. Meilin's family includes parents, Jimmy and Jinky Tan, brother Russell Tan, and extended Chinese-Filipino family in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Manila, Philippines. She has worked for UNC Athletics and political campaigns in North Carolina, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Delaware, and Florida. Meilin's hobbies include reading, cooking/trying new foods, traveling like Anthony Bourdain, watching live sports, cheering on UNC basketball, and walks in nature.
