Medical Expenses for Lori Reeves

***UPDATE***
(from Ben)
Mom's journey has come to a bittersweet end. While we are hurting now, she no longer is. She's not fighting and struggling for every breath any longer. She's breathing deeply and singing loudly in the presence of Jesus. And for that, we're thankful!
We appreciate so much all the support our family has received through prayer, finances, and encouraging messages from our friends, family, and even strangers.
We're thankful for Shepherd's Cove Hospice in Albertville, AL for pretty much rescuing my mom from her previous hospice care provider to ultimately bring her (as well as us) the most comfort and peace possible during these final days. Without going deep into the details, mom was in a "gap" in Alabama healthcare that denied her Medicaid, Medicare, and disability, and therefore any income at all. But that did not deter the nurses, doctors, and other healthcare workers at Shepherd's Cove from providing extremely professional and compassionate care. Couldn't have asked for a better experience once they took over!
Per mom's request, she didn't want anything extravagant or even traditional by way of a funeral service. She didn't like the idea of people coming by and looking at a body she was no longer in. Didn't want a bunch of flowers. None of that. But her one concern or worry was that due to her financial situation, her family would be placed in a burden when she was no longer with us. Because of that, the family is asking that in lieu of flowers, you can send a donation in her honor to help offset expenses related to her previous hospital care, transportation, family missing multiple days of work to become her caretaker, burial costs, etc...
We, by no means, expect your donations, but know that some will want to help in some way. So if you can and you do, thank you so much.
We miss her dearly now. But we believe we will meet again in eternity. Until then, she would want us to live our lives to the fullest by loving God and loving people well. So that's what we're gonna do.

The past few days have been a roller coaster for my family. My mother-in-law, Lori Reeves, has been in hospice care since the beginning of October due to COPD and interstitial lung disease. She’s a loving sister, mother, and grandmother!
After a fall Wednesday night, her health began to decline rapidly, including her mental state. Family and friends have been able to be by her side since then. Friday night, she had to be admitted to the hospital, as it was just not possible for us or in-home hospice to continue to care for her in that moment. Through many frustrations with her hospice provider, as well as policies in place at the hospital, we worked feverishly to figure out a next step in her care.
Over the past couple of days, her mental state has improved substantially, and her stats are pretty good. We were able to arrange a transfer to an in-patient care facility to make sure the right combination of medication and oxygen support is in place before we can take her back to in-home care. We’re extremely thankful for the progress she’s made and for each of you reaching out and praying for a miracle! Our primary goal, as well as Lori’s, is for her to have excellent care and help give her the most comfortable life we can.
Lori has a disability case that’s been in limbo for 2 years and has been denied Medicaid in Alabama despite her only income being a very small Social Security check from her deceased husband. This GoFundMe is set up to help with some of the medical expenses already incurred (including transport), as well as some family members who’ve been out of work, and will continue to need to be out occasionally. We appreciate your continued prayer and support!
