Medical Expenses for little Waylon's new Heart

Donation protected
Waylon has been a true warrior since the day he was born! Waylon was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome though you’d have never known it if the echo didn’t confirm it. He was born at 8 pounds 9 ounces all pink and ready to fight! Thankfully because his HLHS diagnosis requires 3 surgeries (norwoood within a week of birth, Glenn between 2-6 months, and the fontan between age 3-5) Waylon was transported to CHOA Egleston’s cardiac ICU shortly after birth and had his first open heart surgery (Norwood) at just 2 days old. At almost a week old he got a nasty infection which ultimately caused him to go into heart failure. Because of this we were told he wasn’t a candidate for the second surgery and we would need to transplant him or bring him home on hospice. We didn’t like those options so we fought for different medicinal options and prayed a lot……he had his second surgery around 3.5 months old. We brought him home for the first time at 5 months old. At the age of 2, we took Waylon to Boston Children’s for surgery on his tricuspid valve in hopes of making him a candidate for the third surgery his heart needed (Fontan). Unfortunately, due to post op complications, we were not so lucky. Waylon was listed for a new heart at the age of 3. We have waited and waited on “THE CALL”, going to clinical every other month for check ins, and praying for the perfect heart for Waylon. We were told Waylon is one kid that has waited the longest on his new heart but on New Year’s Eve at 2:42am, Waylon got his call! They found the PERFECT heart for Waylon. We threw stuff in a suitcase and headed for Atlanta. We were told Waylon would be going to the OR around 5pm…..then 4pm……then 6pm……then 4am……then 9am……then 9:30am (Gods timing!) and on January 1st around 4pm Waylon’s new heart was placed inside his chest. We know this is a total God thing for Waylon. We have prayed and prayed for healing for Waylon. We have prayed for the perfect heart for him. We have prayed for goodness to come from all this pain and suffering he has felt. 3 years, a few hours, and a perfect heart later, our baby is sailing through recovery!! We have a long road ahead. Coming to Atlanta weekly, the biweekly, and then monthly for several months for anti-rejection follow up but it’s so worth it to see our boy pink and healthy!
