Medical Expenses for Kathleen Voight
Donation protected
Cancer is an ugly disease. It doesn't discriminate and you never believe it's going to hit so close to home. But when it does, it's devastating. It's an out-of-body experience filled with a numbing echo that drums throughout your entire being. The diagnosis "you have stage 4 lung cancer, and it's not curable" are words that you never want to hear. And it always seems to be someone else's parent, relative, neighbor, or friend. Having cancer strike your family feels unimaginable, even impossible.
But in the beginning of July 2020, it struck our family. Kathleen Voight, a beautiful woman, a mother, daughter, sister, and aunt, found out that what she originally thought was bronchitis, and then pneumonia, turned out to be stage 4 lung cancer.
And as this reality struck, the world of an entire family was shattered. Included in the wake of this blow were her two children, Taylor and Nicholas Kowgios. Over the last 4 months she has been out of work due to the severity of her symptoms. Once so active and an incredibly healthy and lively spirit, she is now faced with a struggle to do the simplest of tasks—breathing has become a chore, a simple walk into the next room a daunting challenge. She has been receiving chemotherapy, along with other recommended medications, to help slow down the attack of cancer and to ease her pain. Making her comfortable and returning her life to some sense of functionality and normalcy is now our utmost goal.
Unfortunately, this disease has become very aggressive and has led to multiple hospital stays for Kathleen. As one can imagine, these treatments and procedures have led to exorbitant medical bills. In times like this, no family should have to worry about medical expenses when trying to navigate the emotional and physical assault that cancer brings. Unsure over the ability to pay off these bills, there are days where it feels as though we don't know how we can continue. But of course we do, and we fight to support Kathleen as she fights for her autonomy and for her life to return to one of comfort and accessibility. As her niece would put it, "If you know my Aunt Trina, you know she has a contagious smile and a gang-buster spirit. She turns heads when she walks into a room. She is beautiful inside and out. She is a spitfire and a fighter." Cancer can't win if we put up a fight, and her family is battling to keep her comfortable and to stay positive.
Any donations will help equip us in this treacherous battle against cancer and the unfortunate monetary burdens that come along with it. Thank you for taking the time to read her story and we thank you in advance for any contribution. A little goes a long way and it is much appreciated.
If you are unable to donate, please help and SHARE this post for us.
Sincerely,
Taylor and Nicholas Kowgios and the Giannico family.
