My friend, Jose Ferrer, was recently diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer which has since metastasized to his lungs, liver, and brain. I met him some 18 years ago and anyone who knows him will agree that he is a man of great faith.
My wife has been friends with Joe even longer than I have and he was one of the principal sponsors at our wedding. We have served together in several ministries at St. Patrick Catholic Church in San Francisco and he has inspired me with his words and actions more times than I can count.
Joe attended the seminary in his native Philippines before he realized his true vocation was a husband and father rather than a priest. Recently, he was also considering the Permanent Deaconate as a way to further serve the Church.
He has temporarily relocated to Oregon with his wife, Josie, and daughter, Angeli. They are staying with family and were still settling in when he learned of his medical condition. Joe is employed by the San Francisco Unified School District and has been working with special needs children since 2000.
Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, he is the only one in his family currently employed full-time (Angeli has a part-time job) and the costs associated with Joe’s hospital and various other medical bills are much greater than his family can possibly cover. As of now, Joe is receiving home hospice care. Please pray for Joe and his family.
As St. Patrick Church Parish Pastoral Council President and friend of Joe and on behalf of Joe’s family, we are setting up this fundraiser to help out a good man and his family. We are all struggling through these unprecedented and uncertain times, but please prayerfully consider donating to help our brother and his family in their time of need.
