This is my brother, John Bean. John is currently trying to recover from a long list of medical issues that have left him financially devastated.  The most recent is the amputation of his left leg.  He is beginning the process of being fitted for a prosthesis. Medicare will cover a portion of the cost, leaving John with a portion of the cost to cover for himself.  This is a great burden for him.   He has been desperately battling to save his leg for a while.  Last year, he underwent a partial amputation of his foot in an attempt to stop an infection.  Unfortunately, this procedure was not successful in curing the infection or the terrible pain it caused.  He was unable to return to work.

Allow me to provide a little background on John’s condition and situation.  John was one of the people who worked diligently to help clean up the Gulf of Mexico after the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill.  When we were young, our grandparents lived in Gulf Shores, Alabama and our family spent a great deal of time there. It is a place that our family holds very dear.  In fact, at a crossroads in John’s life, he decided to follow his heart and make Gulf Shores his permanent home. When Deepwater Horizon exploded and oil began gushing into the Gulf, he did not hesitate to join other gulf coast residents in a furious attempt to save that beautiful place that he loved so much.  During the cleanup efforts, John and the other workers were repeatedly exposed to known dangerous chemicals.  As I stated, since his work on the spill, he has endured a long list of medical conditions.   With the amputation of his leg, he has met a complication so daunting, that until he can find a way to pay the cost of his prosthesis, he is unable to move forward with his life.  John urgently needs financial help.  

Thank God for people willing to fight so hard to save a place they loved from a massive, environmental disaster and thank you for helping John with his recovery.

UPDATE 1/22/2020
John has suffered a serious medical and emotional setback.  He fell a few weeks ago and broke his remaining leg.   The break was so serious that it required surgery to place a rod in his lower leg to help the broken bones heal.  He is currently in a rehabilitation hospital but not for much longer.  Insurance will not allow him the time to heal with the constant medical care that he needs.  He will be sent home in a matter of days.  He needs support now more than ever.
