Medical Expenses for Jim Ferguson

Donation protected
Hi everyone, I am fundraising for my dad Jim Ferguson. In August he was rushed to the hospital and had emergency surgery on his perforated bowel. A day after his surgery, in a medically induced coma, he was transferred to another hospital for dialysis. The doctors warned that this transport was a dangerous and risky move but he needed it if he was going to survive. He made the trip and got dialysis and kept on fighting!

For the next month following his surgery he was in the ICU still in a coma. He was on several blood pressure medications, intubated, on a ventilator, on dialysis, on antiobiotics for a Septic infection, had a traech placed, required TPN(IV nutrition) and had several other surgeries. There were days when he made progress and days that we thought we were going to have to say goodbye. The doctors and nurses did a great job, we never gave up, and most importantly he never stopped fighting!

After the first month he started to wake up and was transferred to a skilled nursing facility. There he continued to fight and make progress. He was able to talk for the first time in months just in time for his birthday! He started needing less medication and began to breathe better on his own, no longer needing the assistance of a ventilator.

He was then transferred to rehab in Annapolis, MD. Despite inadequate and neglectful care at this facility he continued to make progress. His kidneys recovered and he no longer needed dialysis. He began physical therapy, started to grow stronger, and ate actual food for the first time in 3 months. He was taken to the hospital from that facility in late February due to the neglect.

While at the hospital he was taken off of the TPN and began to eat food regularly. He got better and was ready to leave the hospital. We were given a choice: he could go back to the rehab facility or go home. No other facility could take him due to his medical insurance. He made his decision and during a snow storm came home, for the first time since August, on March 12th.

He needs to be home for two months until he can go to a rehab and get stronger. While at home he needs a number of supplies and equipment. I am asking for your support, your prayers, and your donations to help him continue to fight!
