As most of you know, my son-in-law Ernie Quiroga, whom I love dearly, was diagnosed with cancer in December 2022. BPDCN is a very rare and aggressive form of leukemia that affects blood, bone marrow and skin, and affects fewer than 1,000 people per year. For over a year now, Alexi has been driving Ernie to UCLA Medical Center almost every other day for treatments. They have tried several different chemo therapies, including trials of experimental drugs, as well as radiation, to no avail. Initially Ernie was advised by his doctor that the plan of action would be to get the cancer into remission and then perform a bone marrow transplant. This cancer is so aggressive that none of the therapies were able to stop its progression long enough to perform the transplant. Ernie's sister Yvonne has been standing by all this while, ready to be his donor. Over the last 14 months, they tried 5 times, to get ready for a transplant, only to be disappointed that the chemo therapy or radiation didn’t work.
So many of you have been praying for Ernie and his family. They are so grateful. It’s everyone’s loving and kind words of encouragement, and prayers that keep Ernie, Alexi, Mackenzie and Jesse going. Thank you all! They never thought the process would have gone on this long without getting to the point of transplant. The continual commuting to LA for over a year now, and the myriad of chemo and radiation regimens, with all the side effects, have taken their toll physically, emotionally and financially. Personally, I don’t think I could have endured what they are going through.
Any donation you make will go directly to Ernie and Alexi, and I know they will be deeply grateful. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Any amount of donation would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to share this link, if you feel moved to do so. Thank you. ❤
