Medical Expenses for Elizabeth Holmes

About a month or so ago, my beloved wife of 46 years, Elizabeth, was having some very postmenopausal bleeding, along with painful cramping. She went to her GP who sent her to a gynecologist who after one look set her up for a D & C and a Hystoscopy. His diagnosis? Uterine Papillary Serous Cancer. It's rare. He referred us to an Gynecologic Oncologist, who is doing a radical hysterectomy tomorrow. After she does that, she'll be able to stage the cancer and tell us how far it has progressed. She will also be able to gauge the follow-up chemo treatments, the standard treatment option with this type of cancer. Needless to say, we are both taking very deep breaths...My cancer is sort of in remission right now, but I'm in that 5 year vigilant mode before I can really say official remission. This time last year, I was having lithotripsy for kidney stones, on the cusp of Dr. Martin finding Transitional Cell Carcinoma Stage 2. So in November, out came a kidney, and we started chemo this summer, completing 8 rounds and then did a follow-up cystoscopy which found no new tumors. This. Was. Good!!!!!! And we were ecstatic! And then Elizabeth was diagnosed. We have experienced an amazing response to our Go Fund Me page previously established for my go-round with cancer and on days when we were down, the encouragement, the support, and the comments on the Go Fund Me page buoyed us both up...just a tremendous source of support!!!!! And that support made all the difference!!!! Elizabeth and I started dating in November of 1972. Six months later, we married. Now here we are, with 6 grown children, their spouses and 7 grandchildren. We've been through so much together, the ups and downs, the joy and the tears. I had a good reminder of how much she means to me about a week ago when we started hiking the 5 mile Boone Fork Trail in N.C. While I did not struggle with it, Elizabeth did, thanks to the many boulders, rocks, and roots we encountered. She broke her ankle (all three bones) 2 years ago and has to be careful about foot placement. We started this hike at 2 in the afternoon and did not finish until 9 at night. We did two hours in the dark, making multiple water crossings. Her strength gave out, so I lent her mine. And that's what this 46 year journey has been like: We take turns lifting each other up as we journey through life, learning, growing, stretching, working, laughing, loving...and maybe, just maybe, I can lend her some strength now, and help her as she helped me battle this thing called cancer. We very much appreciate any help or encouragement or support sent our way and will say now how much of a difference it makes to hear from folks who wind up becoming friends. It has warmed our hearts and made it possible for us to pause, and breathe, and be deeply, deeply grateful. We are grateful to YOU, and to God, and to all the very kind folks who have touched our lives over the past year. With all good blessings, Bob Holmes
