Medical expenses for Christian Tyler Short

Donation protected

On March 7th, 2020 Christian was brought to UPMC Chautauqua Emergency Room because his father was concerned that Christian was constipated. Suppositories had not worked, Christian's belly was started to expand. After several hours of testing the hospital had found tumors on Christians liver. Christian and his father were sent to Oishei Childrens Hospital in Buffalo New York by ambulance. Christian had a liver biopsy done on his second birthday. On March 11th, 2020, Corey Short and Cassandra Olson, received the worst news any parent could receive. Christian was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk metastatic neuroblastoma, a very aggressive malignant cancer. Christian has already endured several rounds of chemotherapy, several surgeries, and is in the middle of his first autologous stem cell transplant. Christian has suffered a very significant hearing loss from these potent drugs, right in a time where his speech is just developing. He will receive a second stem cell transplant, along with radiation, immunotherapy, and several rounds of testing with clinical trial drugs to hopefully overcome this aggressive disease.

Christian has an identical twin brother named Carson at home. The boys had never been separated before this horrific nightmare.  It is truly heartbreaking to try and explain to a two year old that they wont be able to see his father and brother for several weeks at a time.  He doesn't understand why his best friend, his brother, is gone all the time. He doesn't understand why Christian gets sick, why he doesn't eat or drink, why he cant go swimming anymore, why he cant play in the sun, what all of the tubes and ports coming from his body are, why his parents have to rush to Buffalo in the middle of the night with his brother and leave Carson behind. It brings tears to my eyes just typing this alone, just pondering what this family is going through.

Corey had just taken on a new and brighter job opportunity in February of 2020 to support his family. With this being mentioned, he is not eligible for FMLA, PFL, or any benefits to allow him to keep his job and care for his son at the same time. Corey, has taken an leave of absence from his employer to get his baby boy through his back to back stem cell transplants, which endures about a 3 month in-patient hospital admission.  Previously, he had commuted back and forth in his vehicle from Falconer NY to Buffalo NY on a weekly sometimes  daily venture to try and support his children and care for his son at the same time.

On August 14th 2020, another nightmarish tragedy struck this family.  Christian and Carson's father was carjacked a few streets away from Oishei Childrens Hospital in Buffalo New York, getting food and supplies. Corey was hospitalized at ECMC for a short period with brain hemorrhaging, a fracture of the hamate in the right wrist, and four stitches in his forehead. His vehicle was stolen along with his cellphone and wallet. He has several fraudulent charges on his credit and bank cards. His vehicle was located five days later on locust street in Buffalo, three streets behind the hospital. The vehicle had been smashed, stripped, looted, his new tires had been removed, and the vehicle is totaled.  They even stole Christian's brand new car seat.

Any financial help would be a blessing as this family continues to struggle through harsh waters. Thank you in advanced for any donations. Donations will be used directly to help Christians Medical/Travel Expenses. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Thank you for all the continued moral support. Please keep Christian and his family in your prayers.
