Medical and Family Expenses for Chase Fox
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Bubba Toms, and I'm fundraising for my nephew, Chase Fox.
On the morning of August 5th, Chase was on his way to work at 6:45 am. As we all do, the day was taken for granted as a normal day. Little did we know that God changed our lives instantly when Chase had a wreck on the way to work on Ebenezer Road near Schley County. It was a life-changing wreck, not the kind with open wounds that could be seen but an instantly broken neck and spinal cord injury.
Upon being found with no phone or identification, he was life-flighted to the Surgical Trauma ICU at Navicent Health Medical Center in Macon. After coming to, Chase was lucid enough to give them his Dad, Mark Fox's phone number. Mark then notified the family of the situation. The emergency unit found that vertebrae C6 and C7 were horizontally separated during the wreck, and his spinal cord was injured. He had no feeling from his upper chest down.
Doctors decided to realign his vertebrae by securing him in traction and attaching a halo to his head with 40-pound weights pulling on it. During the traction period, Chase had trouble breathing and contracted pneumonia. His labored breathing could be eased by introducing the ventilator before stabilization surgeries occurred, which would require the use of the ventilator anyway. After three days of traction, the doctors performed two separate surgeries within three days of each other to fuse and stabilize the vertebrae.
After the surgeries, they decided to keep the ventilator and performed a tracheotomy which allowed a tracheostomy tube into the lungs. This allowed Chase to slowly communicate by being able to mouth and whisper words more easily. Since then, they have gradually reduced the percent and pressure of oxygen. He is adjusting and has made it to what they call intermittent stages of CPAP mode.
The future is always in God's hands! Chase has been told he will never walk again, but we know of several people that have been told the same thing and are walking every day. God is the consummate healer and comforter. While we believe in the Lord, we still want to be able to get Chase the best care known to man and we believe that The Shepherd Spinal Clinic in Atlanta is the place to be. It's been determined that his insurance will only allow him to be there for 30 days. Doctors have given him estimates of 60, 90, and 120 days needed at a minimum, so we are trying to raise money for medical bills and to accommodate his family during this time.
Chase will have a substantial, ongoing financial burden, so we appreciate any amount you can give to help alleviate this burden. Please also continue to pray for Chase's recovery. We know God hears our prayers and trust that he has Chase in his hands. Thank you so much for your support.
