Medical Expenses for Camila Marie Vargas

On July 21, 2023 Mikaela went to the hospital for what she thought were intense contractions, when in actuality she was experiencing a placental abruption and required an emergency C-section that almost resulted in both mama and baby not making it. After several minutes the medical team was able to resuscitate baby Camila, but by then she had been without oxygen for quite some time which resulted in severe HIE (hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy) brain damage.

The devasting news that Kayla and Deiver received is that Camila’s brain damage is severe, she is currently having several seizures a day and she requires a permanent feeding tube. It is too early to determine the full extent and additional long-term effects of the brain damage. Many infants who suffer HIE go on to develop permanent health conditions and disorders. These include cerebral palsy (CP), cognitive disabilities, epilepsy, hearing and vision impairments, and much more. Once there is permanent brain damage, there is no cure for HIE. However, there are many treatments and therapies that can improve symptoms and function in children with HIE.

Only Jesus knows what the future holds for beautiful Camila. What is certain is that over the coming months and years ahead, Camila will most likely require intensive medical and nursing care. She remains in NICU for the time being as the medical specialists work to find the most effective seizure medications/doses and care routine.

Mikaela, Deiver and their two-year-old son Kylian have a huge support network of family and friends across the globe. We have set up this fundraiser with the aim to provide support for the family, the funds raised will alleviate the financial stress involved with astronomical medical bills, further testing and medical care including specialist appointments, therapies, and equipment.
