Medical & daily living for Tony Hinze and Jess

Hi, my name is Ashley and I am one of Jess's closest friends. I am starting this to try to help raise money to help Tony and Jess cover the cost of medical expenses and the cost of daily living during Tony's cancer journey.

In January Tony went to urgent care for issues with his vision and balance; he was misdiagnosed with an inner ear infection and sent home. By the next morning, his condition had significantly worsened. Jess drove him to the emergency room at Gundersen LaCrosse. After being admitted and having a multitude of tests done, it was discovered that Tony had a large mass on the right side of his brain & he was scheduled for surgery the following day, February 1st. A biopsy was taken and sent out for further testing and the disheartening results came in weeks later. Tony was diagnosed with Grade 3 Oligodendroglioma. His treatment regimen was to be a rigorous one, with multiple rounds of treatment. His first round consists of 33 radiation treatments and 55 days of chemo. He will be finishing his first round of radiation on May 5th and the first round of chemo on May 7th. He will then have a 3-week break along with a follow-up MRI before beginning round 2 of treatments.

After Tony's surgery, his medical team anticipated that Tony would have medical clearance to return to work in early May, but that was before his biopsy results came back. Tony still has not been able to work full-time, and as many of you may know, he is self-employed so there are no benefits of any sort to help supplement income during this time. Jess took a few short weeks of FMLA before facing the difficult choice of accepting a different position at work and finding someone to help provide Tony's cares at home or staying home on her own to provide the necessary cares and transportation.

That being said, we all know that the cost of daily living isn't exactly cheap and the cost is only going up. As someone who grew up in a small town where people always come together to help one another, I am hopeful that we can come together to help Tony & Jess in their time of need, just as they've done for many others in the past. (And if you know Tony, I'm sure that you can picture him shaking his head and looking at the floor while you're reading this.)
