On January 8th Sue Reid and Thomas Reid left for a highly anticipated trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - one of their favorite places to visit. On their first morning there, dad and mom were prepared to enjoy a relaxing day at the pool. Mom forgot something in the room and dad returned to get it for her. On his way back to the room, upon exiting the elevator, dad slipped and fell in a puddle of water. He was unable to move for quite a while and was in too much pain to express what was wrong. He was first taken to the local hospital and then later moved to a trauma facility. He ended up damaging the main artery in his left leg, between his knee and ankle. Surgery to repair the vein with a graft has been successful however he has been fighting an infection and has been placed and kept in the ICU for several days. There is still a chance the graft could fail and he could lose the leg.
Mom and Jennifer are working on an effort to bring him back to the United States, likely going to a hospital in San Diego via medical Airlift transport.
Mom has been so strong and an amazing support for dad. She is working on arranging for a bed in a San Diego trauma center so that we can get him transported. Jennifer will be headed down in the next few days to provide her with what assistance she can.
The hospital bills are becoming an added stress for mom. The hospital in Mexico has been hesitant to approve the transport nor release dad until most of the bill has been paid. Any help that you can provide is sincerely appreciated and will help to bring dad home.
Please keep dad and mom in your thoughts and prayers.
