Happy Holidays to all VCU School of Allied Health Professions (SAHP) and Nurse Anesthesia (NRSA) Alumni and Current Students!!
I wish each of you a warm and hopeful Holiday Season during this time. My name is Lois Stewart. I am a proud alumna of VCU’s Department of Nurse Anesthesia (class of 2004), and am currently a doctoral candidate in the School of Allied Health Professions. As you all know, many talented and dedicated professionals come together to offer us the stellar education we receive in our own corner of VCU. Importantly, they all model the professional culture and kindness that we hopefully pass forward in our careers. One of the most integral parts of VCU’s SAHP doctoral and nurse anesthesia programs is the expertise and excellence that is found in the person of Mr. Gerald F. Clark, MSIS, Distance Education Technology Director… and ‘Jerry’ to all of us.
Jerry’s skill is impossible to overestimate, and his impact on our education is extensive; not only in his technical prowess, but also in his immediate availability and in the joy he takes in the success of students. His ability to fix IT distance technology and communication is nothing short of magical, and the distance aspects of both the SAHP doctoral program, and the NRSA program would be bereft without his work in implementing foundational technology.
As many of you already know, Jerry has suffered a severe accident that will require an intensive acute hospitalization and a very protracted recovery period. Even in the presence of good insurance this will rack up huge financial costs. As I think of all the things Jerry has done for so very many of us over many years, I think a small bit of gratitude from each one of us will put a huge dent in these costs. And honestly, I think it is the least we can do.
To that end, I am setting up this GoFundMe account for his medical and rehab expenses. Many of those I know are heartbroken at this turn of events in Jerry’s life. I will tell you that if we reach our initial goal, I will be in touch with Jerry and VCU staff to assess the need to continue on with fundraising beyond that point. And remember, no gift is too small, as every amount adds to the sum.
In closing, as someone else recently remarked to me: “We MUST help this good man.”
Let it be so, and thank you again for whatever gift you can spare.
Again, warm wishes for blessings and peace to each of you, and those whom you love.
Lois
