Help Olivia Reclaim Her Independence—Help Fund a Lifesaving Ceiling Lift System: to Stay Safe & Supported at Home!
❤️“I just want to stay safe within my home and have the chance to rebuild my strength. If I don’t get this equipment, I may never begin to walk again. I desperately need this equipment to help me accomplish simple tasks everyday that most take for granted, like walking or getting into the tub to soak away daily aches & pains. If I don’t obtain this equipment, I could soon both have no one to help me and no will to continue on if I can’t get my body back.”– Olivia
✨ Meet Olivia
At just 32 years old, Olivia Palubski has faced more than her share of hardship. She has facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), a slow-progressive, incurable and muscle-wasting disease.
Imagine waking up every day knowing that something as simple as getting out of bed or using the bathroom is not only a struggle—but a risk to your life and your caregiver’s health. Olivia’s mobility was already slowly declining but she managed to manoeuvre around, transfer independently, walk to amenities and complete many tasks until life took a sudden tragic impact.
In 2020, Olivia was in a devastating car accident that changed everything she had built and maintained for herself. (Olivia and her Mother were hit from behind while stopped at a red light).
The accident mainly left Olivia with severe injuries of her neck, back & left knee which were untreated by the insurance company to date. That fact alone further lead to weakness in the injured left knee which lead to further walking instability and then finally a demobilizing fall in 2021. As a result of that event, Olivia was rendered completely wheelchair-dependent, compounding her existing condition. This one fall demobilized her and that has accelerated a need for full-time PSW assistance. Since then, she has required help with nearly every aspect of daily life: dressing, bathing, toileting, and moving from one room to another.
Despite a constant battle with the constant pain, frustration, discrimination, rejection letters and the completely cruel neglect from the insurance company, Olivia remains vibrant and full of life & still determined to succeed but that hope & drive is rapidly dwindling. The insurance company also cut off her PSW help in 2023 despite the known demise of her physical ability since the accident. PSW service was the only “therapy” provided to this young woman who clearly needed treatment and had continually asked insurance to provide it. To date she relies 100% on her Mother, Judith to assist her in all tasks and lifts.
Various support systems & charities have been reached out to for funding this Savaria lift system equipment. Normally, these organizations can provide partial or full funding for medical equipment such as the Savaria Lift System for those with severe disabilities.
Multiple organizations and social services either rejected giving anything to Olivia, or wont process her application unless she raises the minimum balance. Therefore, Olivia’s future is in literally in the world’s hands now—her future is more uncertain than ever before.
She has never asked for any help to this degree before. Olivia always managed her own health, stayed on track and continues to do so independently but now has no choice but to beg for charity due to what has unfolded and due to a lack of social assistance from the system. She never expected to need this much care so early on in her life. How she is and was treated by insurance & the system has greatly exasperated her tragedy, along with the bad news of rejection letters from charities.
Olivia’s 2020 car accident and that additional setback fall in 2021 from her untreated injuries adds another powerful and deeply humanizing layer to her story and highlights not only her resilience, but her enduring hope to regain strength and mobility through rehabilitation. She dreams of one day regaining enough strength & independence to participate in physical rehabilitation and transfer safely again within her home. But right now, even safe movement within her home isn’t possible, let alone other people’s homes, various public facilities and in rehab centres. We should at least help give her back the ability to become independent in her dwelling rather than relying on the disappointing social & medical system.
Why We’re Asking for Your Help
Every single day, Olivia’s mother—her only caregiver at this time—lifts her manually to move her between bed, chair, and bathroom. Today, Olivia relies entirely on a wheelchair for mobility as she cannot begin rehab safely from being chair-bound for 4 years. She requires full physical assistance for almost every aspect of daily life: bathing, toileting, dressing, and transfers. But it’s not just Olivia who is carrying this weight—her mother, her only caregiver right now, is lifting and moving Olivia without any assistive equipment.
The risk of injury is no longer just a possibility. It’s a reality waiting to happen.
What’s at Stake
Every day, Olivia’s mother lifts her by hand—often more than six times a day—to help her move between bed, wheelchair, bathroom, and bathtub. This method is not only unsafe and causing wear and tear for Olivia but is taking a dangerous toll on her mother’s spine and joints. She has already reported back strain and fatigue—but there’s no one else to help!
The danger is very real:
• Each transfer puts both Olivia and her mother at risk of injury.
• Olivia is experiencing bone density loss and severe atrophy due to not being able to walk safely since her fall 2021 and receiving no rehab via Insurance.
• Not having this medical equipment will prevent Olivia from obtaining a PSW in the future to relieve the level of responsibility of her mother assisting and lifting her. **Government provided PSW refuse to lift more than 20lbs of weight.**
• Without the financial intervention to fund the only compatible medical equipment, Olivia may become fully bed-bound or forced into long-term care—not because of her condition, but because her home no longer supports her needs without the intervention of the Savaria Lift System.
️The Solution: A Ceiling Lift System which moves along a ceiling track which restores Safety, Dignity & Rehabilitation.

Olivia’s Words:
“Losing more of my mobility has been one of the hardest things. Unintentionally becoming wheelchair-bound has broken my spirit and causes me physical pain everyday from sitting and on-top of other pain. Experiencing how broken the system is in Canada is more than someone with a long-term/permanent disability can accept. But I haven’t given up. I still want to be a physical part of my life—to move, to heal, to have the freedom to just get to the bathroom like I used to, without hurting my mom or someone else. I’ve been overly patient and am eager to use the body & mind God gave me to work with. This Savaria Monarch Ceiling-lift system would change my life and give me that chance to regain what I’ve lost without hurting anyone. That’s all I can hope for at this stage.”
From Olivia’s Mum:
“I’ve never asked for help like this. But I can’t lift her much longer. I’m scared I’ll hurt her—or that I’ll get hurt and won’t be able to help her anymore thereafter. This lift would change everything for us. It would mean the world to Olivia to regain her ability and for us to be experiencing less pain & exhaustion.”

The Mission: Why your donation matters—
➡️Let’s help Olivia remain in her home, stay out of long-term care and work toward recovery on her terms.
Together, we can lift Olivia up—literally—and give her back the dignity, safety, and hope she so deserves. Let’s do the right thing for her when so many have refused to.
This isn’t about luxury. It’s not even about comfort. It’s also about keeping a daughter and her mother safe, together and out of further crisis. It’s a true lifeline.
It’s about preventing future injury. Preserving dignity. And ensuring that Olivia can continue to live at home, surrounded by love, instead of in a long-term care facility before her time.
Olivia has dreams. She helps others when they’re in need by providing Wellness Services despite her own pain. She has a sense of humour that fills the room. She would like the energy to do more for the world instead of worrying about her future state. This equipment won’t cure her—but it will restore a great measure of control, rehabilitation, exercise, hope, and humanity in a life that’s growing harder by the day. Let’s help Olivia rise up to defeat these challenges!
Thank you for being part of Olivia’s continued fight for independence. We appreciate all of you.
Thank you for helping to make Olivia’s Birthday Wish Come True!
Godbless!
