Medical & Living Costs for Lizze's Covid Recovery

Donation protected
This fundraiser is for Lizze Buchanan, a 25-year-old RN with a BSN of three years who will be graduating as a Nurse Practitioner in Spring 2021. She's not only my soon to be sister-in-law, but she is easily one of the kindest, funniest and most thoughtful people I've ever met.

On December 19, Lizze was diagnosed with Covid-19, bacterial pneumonia and viral pneumonia. She was hospitalized four days later after experiencing severe trouble breathing. After two days in the hospital, she had to be rushed to the ICU in the middle of the night because her oxygen levels were so dangerously low.

Lizze is still in the ICU fighting low oxygen levels, a blood infection and fluid in her lungs. She can't keep her oxygen level above 75% without the 55 liters of oxygen per minute she's currently receiving, and has to wear a BiPAP machine on and off to push air into her lungs since hers aren't strong enough.

We don't know when Lizze will be able to come home, but we know her recovery won't be easy. We’re told it could take months of rehabilitation, physical therapy and other treatments associated with full recovery. We are trying to raise money for the medical and living costs she’ll be facing once she’s out of the hospital, such as the respiratory equipment that will be critical to her at-home recovery.

We appreciate all of the support, prayers and kind words we have received from family and friends over the last week. If you can please keep Lizze in your thoughts and help her with any amount, it would mean the world to us. Thank you all so much in advance for your love and generosity!

PLEASE NOTE: Any money we raise over $8,000 that does not go to her medical or living expenses will be donated to St. Peter's Hospital. The teams there have done an amazing job taking care of Lizze, unfortunately they're facing a serious supply shortage that is impacting the level of support they can provide to patients. (Due to limited availabilities of thermometers and pulse oximeters, Lizze could only have her temperature taken every eight hours and we've had to buy our own pulse oximeters for her.) Not having the right tools delayed the care Lizze needed, and so any extra dollars will be put towards making sure they have the essential tools to prevent this in the future.
