Hello,
My name is Keri & I am fundraising for my sister Stacey & her family. On the morning on March 7th, her husband Chris (47 yrs old) had a brain aneurysm. He was starting his day like any other day. When coming out of the shower he felt a sharp pain to his neck & blurred vision. His 12 yr old son heard his calls & got my sister to help. Within minutes Chris was unconscious. He was rushed to the Grey Nuns hospital by ambulance where they determined he had a severe brain bleed. Once they had him stabilized he was transferred to the U of A where drains were inserted into his brain to relieve the pressure, he then went for surgery to stop the bleed. He has been in the hospital for over 3 weeks now. He spent the first 10 days in ICU and was unconscious the first 5 days. He was then moved to critical care for another 10 days and finally had made his way to a neuro ward where he will begin his recovery. His recovery will be slow, he will be in the hospital for months and then be transferred to the Glenrose to complete his rehabilitation. Right now he doesn't know who we are & has limited mobility on his right side. He knows Stacey is his wife but not her name and he recognizes his Mom.
In addition to the stress Stacey and her family are facing emotionally, she is also having to figure out her finances. Stacey’s doctor signed off on stress leave for her for 3 months minimum so that she can be at the hospital every day to be with Chris and to deal with the trauma and emotional stress her & Cohen are going through . Unfortunately, her employers insurance company will only approve a 1 month stress leave as their “chart amount” says that all she is entitled to, even with the doctor's note which leaves her in a lurch financially. Unfortunately with Chris being a small business owner he did not carry any benefits of his own.
I would really appreciate your support to lessen the worry for Stacey to be able to meet her financial obligations. Thanks so much.
