Medical Emergency: New Lift Chair for Alicia
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Mike and my wife's name is Alicia. Anyone who has known us for a while is probably aware of the medical issues Alicia has faced in recent years and how debilitating they've become and tbe affect they've have on her quality of life. For those who don't know, she has severe fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. Both conditions, compounded by her weight issues, cause extreme pain and mobility problems. There is never a time Alicia isn't experiencing some degree of discomfort, but getting up and down and moving around the house increases her pain levels quite a bit. To help make these transitions as pain-free as possible and to give her some of her independence back, we bought Alicia a lift chair a few years ago. While this appeared to be a viable solution at first, we soon realized the quality of the chair and the company that made it would create many issues, as we ended up having it replaced multiple times due to faulty parts and poor product quality. The last time they replaced it and it was still malfunctioning, they refused to help us any further.
So here is where we are at now: Alicia is using a broken chair that doesn't have functioning foot rest. So in order for her to have her feet elevated, I have to lift her legs (she can't lift them alone) onto a makeshift footstool that doesn't give her the proper elevation to drain fluid buildup from her legs. Furthermore, because she can't get up and down from the lift chair by herself, I have to be present anytime she needs to get up to use the bathroom. So that means if I am at work for 8+ hours, she has to wait for me to get home before she can get up. As if that wasn't difficult enough, the broken chair has caused a wound on the back of Alicia's legs because of parts protruding through. We have done our best to make due and make changes to adapt to the situation, but this chair is causing too many physical and emotional problems to use anymore, even temporarily. Alicia has worked with a very nice gentleman and Medicare to find a quality, durable chair that will more than accommodate Alicia's needs, but unfortunately even with their assistance, the cost of the chair will be $2500. We are barely getting by financially as it is and have no viable way of obtaining a new chair without help. I hate to ask for assistance, but Alicia also can't afford to be put through anymore excruciating pain than she already experiences on the daily. The new chair she has picked out would go a long way in helping her not only alleviate as much pain as possible and regain some independence, but also help her focus on getting healthier overall. Any and all help and kindness is deeply appreciated by us both. Thank you for your time and consideration.
