Medical emergency, helping the Wood family

Hello, my name is Esteban JuradoTraverso and I have set up this fundraising page on behalf of my friend Nilia Wood (81) from Venezuela who lives in Oxford with her husband Peter Wood. I met them in 2015 when I was working at OUP.

Her world fell apart on 9th June 2023. Nilia just learned her only loved son, William (39), had a brain stroke on Wednesday 7th of June. They had to do an operation to liberate the pressure on his brain. Will is in a coma at the Regional Hospital in Pardubice (Czech Republic). 

William Wood is a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Pardubice living in the Czech Republic and working as a visiting professor at the European Center for Political Philosophy at the University of Hungary. William has been studying for many years to pursue his academic career and achieved so much thanks to his and his parent's huge effort and sacrifice. He came from a family with extremely limited financial resources but thanks to their desire to progress and persistence he won various grants and scholarships in Oxford first and in other universities later (he went to Churcher’s College and later to Trinity College -University of Oxford-). Over the years, William has been helping their parents by sending funds to support them (whenever he could).

On Wednesday, he was going to meet another professor as they were planning to give a talk, but he never showed up to the meeting.  The professor, who knows him and could not get in touch, started looking for him, later he included the police and they found him at the hospital without knowing how he arrived there or his whereabouts before the incident. William's parents learned he was in the hospital through the British Consulate in the Czech Republic. 

Nilia and Peter need to travel immediately to see their son and stay with him until he is better (it’s still uncertain when this is going to be).

This is the reason I’m appealing for help to them so they can cover the travel, accommodation and living costs in the Czech Republic as they are both retired, paying rent in the UK and their savings are only £400 (this was the reason William was helping them).

It is still uncertain how William will evolve, how long they would need to stay in the Czech Republic or if they can bring him to Oxford. Everything is too recent but Nilia and Peter need initial help to travel and stay there.

I understand you might not be able to help, but please, if this is the case, forward this petition to people you know could help and keep William in your prayers and thoughts and also Peter and Nilia so they can be strong to support him.

Update 18/07/23

Peter and Nilia are now in the Czech Republic thanks to your great generosity. Wiliam had four operations already and his health is very fragile and with uncertain outcomes. Peter and Nilia need to stay there for a while so we appreciate your continuous generosity.
