From Medical Mystery to Cancer Diagnosis: Our Ongoing Journey
A Heartfelt Thank You
When we first launched this GoFundMe with a target of €3,500, we were overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from our community. You didn't just meet our goal - you exceeded it, showing us that we're not alone in this fight. Your generosity helped us through those initial critical weeks of emergency relocation and getting treatment started.
Now, as we face the reality of long-term cancer treatment and integrative care, we're extending our goal to help sustain us through this next part of the journey. The road ahead is longer than we initially anticipated, but your continued support gives us hope and the ability to focus on healing.
How It Started
Three months ago, what seemed like simple food poisoning in Ghana quickly spiraled into a life-threatening medical emergency. After weeks of severe symptoms, I lost 5kg in just 5 days and required morphine for pain management while unable to eat anything.
The Emergency Flight to Barcelona
My condition became so critical that we had to arrange an emergency medical evacuation to Barcelona, Spain for urgent treatment.
The Diagnosis
After extensive testing and biopsies in Barcelona, doctors diagnosed me with stage 4 stomach cancer. I am now on my third round of combined immunotherapy and chemotherapy treatment, with doctors predicting long-term chemotherapy will be necessary.
Our Integrative Treatment Approach
In addition to conventional cancer treatment, I'm now working with Dr. Manuela Velat, an integrative medicine specialist. Dr. Velat's approach focuses on changing the internal environment so that cancer cells no longer want to duplicate. This combined approach - addressing both the cancer directly and the conditions that allow it to thrive - gives us the best chance at not just managing the disease, but creating an environment where I can heal.
This integrative care includes specialised treatments, supplements, dietary protocols, and lifestyle modifications that work alongside my chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
Life Changes and Current Reality
After 4 years living in Ghana, we've had to relocate back to Barcelona to be near proper medical support and provide stability for our family during this challenging time. This means starting over - finding housing, re-establishing our lives, and managing all the costs of an unplanned international move while focusing on treatment and recovery.
The Road Ahead
I'm unable to work for the foreseeable future as I continue regular chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments. We're facing months of intensive medical care, integrative treatments, and rebuilding our life in Barcelona while fighting this disease.
How You Can Help
While my chemotherapy and immunotherapy are covered by Spanish healthcare, the integrative treatments, specialised care, supplements, and our living expenses during this extended treatment period are not. We have months - likely longer - of intensive treatment ahead while I cannot work.
Any contribution, large or small, helps us focus on fighting this disease and maintaining quality of life for our family rather than being overwhelmed by financial pressure.
Our Objective
Our goal is clear: create the conditions in my body where cancer cells can no longer thrive, maintain my quality of life, and give me the best possible chance at long-term survival. This requires both conventional medical treatment and integrative approaches that support my body's ability to heal.
Thank you for being part of our support network during this life-changing journey. I will continue sharing updates here as we move forward in this fight.
