UPDATE: Medical emergency forces the family out

Donation protected
UPDATE:  We thank those that donated but the family did not meet their minimum goal. As such, they have been forced to take out high interest rate loans to complete the purchase. We are still accepting donations and every dollar received will go towards paying off those loans as quickly as possible.  The family still needs your help.

To make matters worse, their pickup truck was hit while it was parked legally on the street and the truck has been totaled. Now they have to try and find another truck to help them move, and for Big Al to be able to continue to do handyman work. They just can't catch a break.

Original Story:

Al Buskirk family has less than 12 hours to raise the balance of the money needed to be able to move. We have reduced our goal as it is obvious the original goal would not be reached and the Buskirks are being forced to arrange some private loans.

Medical emergencies forces this local Allentown family to find single floor affordable living to be able to accommodate their son and his wheelchair along with the wife's inability to climb stairs.

We have revised our goal  to raise $3,000.00 which will provide the balance of the funding needed to purchase an older but good condition mobile home which would allow the family to stay together. The home is already in agreement and funds are needed by the end of January to complete the purchase and make modifications for wheelchair and lift ability.

Many in the Allentown area know the Buskirk family.  "Big Al" worked at the Allentown Hardware Store on 7th Street for years and was always willing to go out of his way to help anyone.

Recently, Big Al's son Little Al suffered a major medial setback  which will leave him wheelchair bound and unable to walk, or take care of himself in any way.  Little Al, who is now 26 had already beat the odds several times. He was born with Cerebral Palsy and suffered his first heart attack at he age of 3 months This caused a severe learning disability where Little Al has an approximate IQ of a seven year old. Through the years Little Al has dealt with many medical issues  including epileptic seizures, heart, lung and muscular problems.

Back in October, Little Al suffered  a Spinal Stenosis event and he can no longer walk, talk, feed himself or get to a bathroom on his own. He was in the hospital for over a month before being moved to a rehabilitation facility but so far about the only thing he can do is move his one arm.

The family can't afford Al's care in the rehabilitation facility and his recovery prospects are so limited he now has to be moved out back to the family's residence.

The family has dealt with many medical setbacks. Big Al has been on dialysis for 16 years (most don't live more than 10 years) and suffered a heart attack six years ago. Al's wife Katherine had a stroke and a double bypass a little over a year ago and while she has recovered somewhat, she can't climb stairs or walk any distances so she has to live exclusively on the first floor of their home.

They can't take proper care of Katherine or Little Al at their present home. They can't sell their home as it is in disrepair and they owe much more than the home is worth.  The entire family income is disability  through SSI and not enough for them to be able to stay where they are.

They have found an older mobile home in Breinigsville , Pennsylvania they can buy for less than $6,700 including all settlement costs.  This home has been very well maintained through the years.  They will need to be able to build an ADA compliant wheelchair ramp and to expand the entrance door, bathroom and bedroom doors to be able to accommodate the wheel chair and Hoyer Lift which will be required for Little Al's care.

Because we did not reach our original goal, they are being forced to purchase an even smaller unit which can be seen here: https://www.mhvillage.com/Mobile-Homes/Mobile-Home-For-Sale.php?key=2179006

We only had a couple of weeks to try and raise the funds needed to help them complete the purchase and make required modifications and the rehabilitation facility wants them to take Little Al out of the facility right away.

As the administrator for this GoFundMe campaign, I am a licensed mortgage loan originator (NMLS#589189)having passed extensive background checks  and been in the mortgage business for close to 30 years so you can feel confident the funds are being raised exactly for the purpose stated. Should we exceed our goal, any excess funds will be used to get the father's truck running again so he can try to do handyman work to supplement their income.  You are welcome to call me at [phone redacted] with any questions or you can email me.

Thank you so much for your consideration and any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
